Weird Spiral Light in Norwegian Sky?

The world is an odd place sometimes, and while you might be used to hearing about unusual and bizzare things, there is a plausability to many of them. Even the fake stuff! But now and then along comes something that just looks like a hoax. Well that was my first impression of this image. However there have been multiple images taken from across Norway. (I’ve included 2 images below).  The light was seen over Norway at 7:50 am local time and lasted a couple of minutes.

From spaceweather.com: “We are used to seeing lots of auroras here in Norway, but this was different,” says Nick Banbury of Harstad who witnessed the phenomenon on his way to work “between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. local time.”

Currently it is speculated  that it might have been high in the atmosphere given that it was visible from locations hundreds of KM apart. Was it a botched rocket launch by the Russions with a motor out of control? Currently the Russians deny this as an option, and there is no further evidence for now.  I’ll keep you posted.

Onlooker Jan Petter Jorgensen took this photo:

There were images taken from multiple locations dispelling theories that this is a Photoshoped image.  It still looks like a bad sci-fi tractor beam….
