Norad 50 years of Tracking Santa – Happy Christmas from Nightsky.ie

Firstly, if you don’t have kids, this post may not be for you….

But for those who have a vested interest in ensuring everyone is tucked up in bed in time for Santa, then hopefully you know about the Offical NORAD Santa tracking site. http://www.noradsanta.org . Each year Santa is tracked across the globe deliverying presents as he goes. As he gets closer there is a major rush in my house to get all the children off to bed and asleep before he arrives (they are the ones in a rush!).

How do they track Santa?

NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa – radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets.

Tracking Santa starts with the NORAD radar system called the North Warning System. This powerful radar system consists of 47 installations strung across the northern border of North America. On Christmas Eve, NORAD monitors the radar systems continuously for indications that Santa Claus has left the North Pole.

I suggest you check it out the norad tracking Santa site on Christmas Eve. There will be regular updates from Norad on Santa’s Global position with any images taken along the way available for viewing.
