Here are two more “Music” video from symphony of science. “A Glorious Dawn” features Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking and “We are all connected”. My preference is certainly the first.
I wanted to briefly mention the technique used which is called Pitch correction. This allows for the correction of intonation of an audio signal. This is primarily used as a “correction” tool for music production and while it was used on post processing initially, it has found it’s way into live performances. I reckon I could do with it! This concept was featured in an episode of The Simpsons entitled “New Kids on the Blecch” in which a cartoon representation of a pitch corrector (labeled “Studio Magic”) is used to replace the total lack of singing talent in a manufactured boy band of which Bart Simpson is a member. The audio and video clips are mixed into digital mashups and scored with Boswell’s original compositions.
John Boswell, the musician and producer behind the Symphony of Science has taken the technology and given us something wonderful. In his own words
“The goal of the project is to bring scientific knowledge and philosophy to the masses, in a novel way, through the medium of music. Science and music are two passions of mine that I aim to combine in a way that is intended to bring a meaningful message to listeners, while simultaneously providing an enjoyable musical experience.”
I just wanted to say thanks, and if you have not yet watched them, you should!
The title takes its name from the chorus spoken by Carl Sagan, remixed from an episode of Cosmos:
- A still more glorious dawn awaits
- Not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise
- A morning filled with 400 billion suns
- The rising of the milky way[9]
‘A Glorious Dawn’
